: invite your friends to your home for coffee, a light supper, wine and cheese, or whatever you like. Ask each friend to bring some 'bare necessities' to fill the Family HomeStead cupboard. Items needed include, but are not limited to, toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo, conditioner, brushes and combs, diapers, any personal hygiene product, etc... A Board member or representative from Family HomeStead will be available to speak at your event, explaining the details and answering any questions your guests have about Family HomeStead. If you are interested in hosting a Bare Necessities Collection Party, please contact Amy Palsco at 720.320.9210 or amypalcso@gmail.com.
: Family HomeStead houses approximately 80 families at any time of the year. As a family moves out, the apartments must be cleaned and repainted. Gather a group of your friends to volunteer to clean, paint and refurbish one of the units. All painting and cleaning supplies are provided by Family HomeStead! Contact Ann Heyler at acheyler@gmail.com for more information.
: Early each year, HomeSteaders hosts a grand fundraiser gala that includes a silent and live auction, elegant dinner and entertainment. This is our largest fundraising event and there are many different opportunties to volunteer. You can help by heading up a committee, or simply being on a committee - decorations, invitations, catering management, entertainment, setting up, sponsorship, auction item solicitation, and more. This is a great opportunity to get involved in a number of ways. Please ask for more details about this exciting event! Contact Miki Miller miki.miller@schwab.com, Leah Langerman llangerman@deainc.com or Irina Lewis irina_lewis@hotmail.com for more information.
: Every June the HomeSteaders schedules a 'Bucket Brigade' luncheon for guests to donate cleaning supplies for the families who are housed by Family HomeStead. We find that if a family is given cleaning supplies they tend to take better care of the apartments. Supplies in need include mops, brooms, sponges and cleaning solutions are greatly needed. You can either volunteer to organize and manage the brigade, host it at your home, or simply attend and bring some supplies.
: Each July, prior to the beginning of school, we organize a loft tour and ask visitors to bring much needed school supplies for the children in Family HomeStead emergency housing. Items needed include backpacks, notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, crayons and more. You can volunteer to arrange the event, be a host at one of the many lofts on the tour, or simply attend the tour and bring supplies. Contact Nina O'Kelley at nina@kentwoodcity.com for more information.
: This December we plan to host a luncheon, with a speaker who will share insights on a topic of relevance (this year the topic will be 'breaking the cycle of poverty'). At the luncheon, attendees are encouraged to bring household essential 'generic' items such as pots, pans, dinnerware, glassware, utensils and other items that families need in their kitchen or bathroom. You can volunteer to host the luncheon, arrange for the speaker, or attend and donate housewares. See our events page or contact Nina O'Kelley at nina@kentwoodcity.com for more information.
: There are several different openings available on the Board. Contact Nina O'Kelley nina@kentwoodcity.com or Sandra Walling sjwall05@comcast.net for more information.
