HomeSteaders' Bucket Brigade 2010

GREEN and CLEAN!

HomeSteaders' Bucket Brigade 2010

was a Huge Success!

It was a bright, sunny and HOT day in June that supporters of HomeSteaders and Family HomeStead gathered together to learn more about going GREEN and how they could further help the families entering Family HomeStead’s Emergency Housing Program.

What is  the Bucket Brigade?

Each year HomeSteaders, the auxiliary of Family HomeStead, organizes the Bucket Brigade; a luncheon during which guests enjoy lunch and company, learn more about Family HomeStead, and graciously donate much needed cleaning supplies to be given to the families housed in the Family HomeStead apartments.

What a Day!

On Friday, June 25, more than 60 people joined together on the grounds of Mary McNicholas’ Cherry Hills garden, listened to  ‘How to Go Green’ from Sean McNicholas and experienced the scrumptious food from Shannon McNicholas and Continental Divine Catering.  It truly was a family affair!  Guests were also able to hear from Nina O’Kelley, President of HomeSteaders, Les Jones, Founder and Executive Director of Family HomeStead, and Paula Ruszel, newly appointed Assistant Executive Director.  Each offered great insights on the needs of the Denver homeless community, and how Family HomeStead, with the support of people like you, is helping to make a difference.

Guests and speakers alike enjoyed the afternoon, were able to ask questions and gained valuable insight from one another on a number of topics that directly impact us all.

What a Success!

HomeSteaders was able to collect close to $4000 in donated goods (cleaning supplies and cash donations) which will go directly to Family HomeStead and the families in their Emergency Housing Program.

The families in the program are more than eager to keep their apartments clean.  But, when a majority of the money coming in must be budgeted for food, not much is left over for costly cleaning supplies.  Your donation of such supplies helps the families not only physically keep their apartments clean, but impacts them emotionally as well, allowing them to take pride in their home.

Thank you to everyone for making the Bucket Brigade such a stellar success!

What Else?

If you'd like to directly help the Family HomeStead families, host your own 'Bare Necessities' Mini Collection Party!  Have a get together at your home and ask guests to bring personal care products or cleaning supplies.  HomeSteaders can provide a speaker (if you wish) or simply pick up the supplies you collect!

If you are interested in hosting a 'Mini-Bare-Necessities-Collection-Party' please contact Amy Palcso at 720.320.9210 or AmyPalcso@gmail.com.

Thank you for your continued support!
